Druminnor Castle Excavations

For over a decade, archaeologists have been exploring the rich and layered history of Druminnor Castle.

Once the power base of the influential Lords of Forbes, the castle was at the centre of regional life for centuries before the family seat moved to Keig in the 1800s.

Recent digs have taken that history even further back. A charred grain-drying kiln, buried deep in the soil, tells us people were living and farming here as early as the mid-12th century. That discovery has opened a window into how the surrounding land was managed long before the castle’s more dramatic centuries of power struggles and expansion.

Today, Druminnor remains a private home. The excavations continue by kind permission of the current owner.
