Archaeology
Archaeology is the study of human history and prehistory and is made up of a variety of activities, not simply excavation.
From detailed surveys of buildings and field systems to the examination of artefacts recovered from sites, archaeology can help build a rich and detailed picture of life in the past on Bennachie and its hinterland.
One of our great success stories is our annual dig on the Bennachie hillside that encourages volunteers to have a go at archaeology. Enabling community involvement in learning more about the history of the area they live in is a big part of what we do.
The team is also currently working on a project at Druminnor Castle near Rhynie.
We also engage with local schools to give students the opportunity to learn new skills and appreciate the history of their surroundings.
The next scrape of a trowel from any of our intrepid volunteers may be the next big thing in telling the fascinating story of Bennachie and those who lived there.
For more information regarding all our planned future dates please see our Events.
