Formation of the Hill

Around 400 million years ago, molten rock intruded beneath the surface sandstone and slowly cooled.

Over millions of years, weathering and glaciation shaped the land, resulting in the distinctive granite tors and moorland summit we see today.

The surrounding area was left with fertile soil, though it was scattered with rocks, making cultivation challenging but providing materials for building homes, fortifications, and stone circles.
